IDEO + ACUMEN: Human Centred Workshop

The brief we collectively chose was “Provide quick, healthy and cheap eating options for students“.

As students ourselves, we felt the current lifestyle of students being fast paced with little or no experience of prior cooking and student’s added perception that cooking is difficult, felt this brief was perfect to tackle.

Through observations of student’s buying habits, it was found that students tend to buy ready-meals instead of cooking their own food whilst interviewing the university’s cooking instructor it was identified that students skip breakfast altogether, the most important meal of the day.

An understanding was made that students lacked the knowledge of the benefits of cooking and healthy eating, whilst there was perception that cooking is time consuming whilst there was need to provide an easy access to grocery.

Through brainstorming a idea was formed, to provide a FoodKit that contains all the essential components to make a healthy meal. Essentially the FoodKit provides students with a range of customisable meals that they will receive weekly, in the form of fresh ingredients, complete with an easy-to-follow recipe and cooking instructions. FoodKit is a great way to teach students on what it means to eat healthy and it’s benefits. We hope that this would encourage students to start cooking.

Please have a look at our FoodKit slide to have clearer understanding of the project and its outcome.
